OVERVIEW
Built for Computex 2017, Ranger 360 is a compact action camera with real-time stitching and live streaming. It’s designed for seamless capture, allowing users to share without interruption.
We started with secondary research, analyzing consumer trends, product roadmaps, and early use cases of 360° video. From this, three opportunity areas emerged:
From the interviews, we uncovered clear design needs:
Need both perspectives → Demand for both first-and third-person views.
Hands in frame → Footage often cluttered with hands and tripods.
Building on these insights, I led cross-functional workshops with designers, PMs, and engineers.
A key principle emerged: Capturing should never interrupt the activity. This vision shaped three core features:
Wearable remote for one-hand tagging and recording.
Manual & auto highlights triggered by smiles, sound, or motion.
Ranger’s design, inspired by insect compound eyes, emphasized wide-angle vision, durability, and sportiness. The 130g cylindrical body was IP67 water-resistant and capable of real-time stitching and live streaming without a smartphone.
Tests with bikers, skaters, and VR (diving, surfing) showed a strong preference for compact, single-hand formats, shaping the final ring-style remote.
Long-session trials proved Smart Tags surfaced highlights in seconds, with participants calling it transformative.
Field and VR tests refined button placement, grip, and responsiveness, ensuring a reliable user experience.
“Jumping straight to the good stuff is a game changer.”
The Ranger app combined remote operation and media management. Users connected via NFC/Wi-Fi for live preview, mode switching, and capture, or browsed albums to review and share.
The app adopted the camera’s hexagonal design language, reinforcing a cohesive identity across hardware and software.
The physical Intuitive Switch was translated into swipe gestures —left for video, right for photo— so operating the app felt just as natural as using the device.
Tags were placed directly on the video timeline, enabling instant jumps to highlights. Users could also skip forward or backward between tags, making navigation effortless.
Ranger 360 debuted at Computex 2017, where live demos of real-time stitching and streaming attracted strong attention from visitors and media.
This showcase validated not only the technical innovation but also the user-driven design, confirming the value of seamless controls, compact design, and highlight-sharing features.

Interaction Design Lead
— YEAR
2016-2017
In this project, I was responsible for end-to-end UX and interaction design, bridging hardware and software.
I conducted 14 user interviews and led field and VR testing with bikers, surfers, and skaters. I facilitated cross-functional workshops, shaping concepts such as the Action Dot remote and Smart Tags workflow.
On the software side, I designed the companion app’s interaction model, aligning swipe gestures with the Intuitive Switch and embedding Smart Tags into the video timeline.
My role was to ensure Ranger 360 delivered a cohesive, user-validated experience showcased at Computex 2017.
